Piddle
Fife
Pam and Kevin Fife—Owners
With
much sadness, this morning, September 18th, 2004, we said a loving farewell to a
good and faithful friend and family member, Piddle.
Piddle was recently diagnosed with cancer, and the time had
come to set her free. Free from the pain that she had recently come to know,
free to again run with her pals Kodi and Shep, free to find that perfect fishing
stream where the trout are plentiful and will rise to a fly on each cast, and
free to lie by a camp fire basking in its warmth.
We will surely and deeply miss Piddle. She was the best dog a
family could have. She was kind, gentle and loving. Other than a pat on the head
and an occasional rib bone, she asked nothing in return. If you forgot the pat
on the head, Piddle would gently remind you with a paw tap on your leg.
For Kevin, Piddle was his best fishing pal. They spent
countless hours together on a stream with Piddle patiently waiting for the sound
of the hook being set. Then all hell would break loose with both Kevin and
Piddle trying to land the trout. There were times when Kevin’s fishing
shortcomings failed to produce results. Piddle didn’t care. It was the
opportunity to be knee deep in the stream with the hope of success that Piddle
and Kevin enjoyed. Such was the case last night when Kevin and Piddle took their
last casts together. In the twilight of the day and of Piddle’s life, Kevin cast
his fly with Piddle waiting patiently by his side. But the fish would not bite
and Piddle and Kevin slowly walked home for the last time. Kevin will greatly
miss his best fishing partner.
For Pam, Piddle was the loving companion, laying quietly by
while Pam went about her daily tasks. Pam brought Piddle into our lives rescuing
her from an uncertain fate. Once home, Piddle earned her name and in the throws
of her disease reminded us that her name was justly deserved. Pam will miss
Piddle’s constant companionship and loving ways.
For Justice, Piddle was his protector, always keeping a
watchful eye for anything that may harm him. Piddle was gentle with Justice and
Justice could lie on Piddle, pull her tail and otherwise harass her without
retribution. Even though Piddle entered our lives before Justice, she harbored
no animosity. She was his friend.
Piddle was a great friend and companion and an extraordinary
dog. We will miss her.
