Anipryl® (Selegiline Hydrochloride)

Product Description and Indications for Use: This is a tablet used to control the signs associated with hyperadrenocorticism (Cushing’s disease). This drug only aids dogs that have Cushing’s disease that is caused by problems with the pituitary.

Dosage and Administration: An initial dose of 1 mg/kg (0.45 mg/lb) of body weight is recommended. This dose is given once a day in the morning and continued for at least 2 months. During this two-month period, the dog should be closely monitored by a veterinarian. After this initial therapy, if no improvement has occurred, the dose can be increased up to 2 mg/kg (0.90 mg/lb) once a day. Throughout the initial treatments, the dog should be closely monitored for adverse signs (see below for some of the most common). The majority of dogs seem to respond within 1-2 months.

Precautions and Side Effects: Some adverse signs that are noticed with Anipryl include vomiting, diarrhea, restlessness, and decreased hearing. If these signs are noticed, contact a veterinarian.

Packaging: The tablets come in 2, 5, 10, 15, and 30 mg strengths.
