Oral Pill Administration

To administer a pill, take the forefinger and thumb and gently curl the lips of the upper jaw around the upper teeth. This will help force the jaw open and at the same time help protect the fingers.

With the pill in hand, open the lower jaw with the middle finger of the hand holding the pill.

Once the mouth is opened, place the pill towards the back of the throat, over the back of the tongue. Watch the dog swallow or lick its nose. Sometimes rubbing the nose will help stimulate the dog to swallow. A video of this procedure is found below.
