Aspirin (Acetylsalicylic acid)


Product Description: This is an anti-inflammatory and general pain reliever.

Indications for Use: Use in situations where pain relief or fever reduction is needed (infection, muscle damage, arthritis, and joint pain).

Dosage and Administration: Give approximately 4.5 mg per lb. every other day. This means that a 10 lb. cat should receive approximately 1/2 of an 80 mg. tablet every other day.

Duration of Treatment: Continue the treatment for as long as symptoms persist, but do not exceed 3 days of total treatment (see precautions).

Packaging: This product comes in containers of 80 and 325 mg tablets and in a powder form.

Precautions and Side Effects: Aspirin should be used cautiously in cats. Aspirin can cause stomach and intestinal irritation and ulceration. Be cautious regarding duration of treatment and doses. If signs of abdominal pain, blood, or dark, tar-like material in the feces occur, discontinue aspirin and all anti-inflammatory agents immediately. Anti-ulcer treatment (sucralfate, etc.) may be considered if the above signs exist. Do not use with any other anti-inflammatory drug.

Storage: Store in a cool dry place.
