Product Description:
This is a solution containing calcium, dextrose (sugar), potassium, phosphorus, and magnesium.Indications for Use: CMPK is to be used in weak or down animals suffering from milk fever (hypocalcemia) and grass tetany (hypomagnesemia).
Not approved for use in sheep and goats. Refer to extra-label drug use.
Dosage and Administration: It is recommended that an initial dose of 50-100 mLs be given intravenously (IV). This amount should be repeated frequently (every 2-3 hours) and the doses should be given SLOWLY. During administration, heart rate and rhythm should be monitored. If at any time in the calcium administration, the heart skips beats, becomes irregular, or speeds up over 80 beats per minute, discontinue the IV immediately! Death can occur if calcium is given too quickly.
Packaging: This product comes in 500 mL bottles. Each mL contains 21.6 mg of calcium, 3.2 mg of magnesium, and 150 mg of dextrose.
Precautions and Side Effects: The animal’s heart should be carefully monitored with a stethoscope throughout administration of CMPK. If irregular or skipped beats occur, discontinue administration immediately! Death can occur if calcium is given too quickly.
Storage and Shelf Life: Keep in a cool, dry place. Use the entire contents after opening the bottle.
Meat Withholding: Not established for sheep and goats. None in cattle.
