Product Description/Indications for Use:
This is an antibiotic that comes as a feed additive or as a powder. The feed additive can be used for the control and treatment of bacterial enteritis caused by E. coli, and for bacterial pneumonia caused by Pasteurella multocida. It can also be used for growth promotion and improved feed efficiency. The powder form can be used for scours and enterotoxemia. Oxytetracycline can be used in an extra label manner to prevent abortions caused by Campylobacter, Chlamydia, and Leptospira infections.Not approved for use in goats. Refer to extra-label drug use.
Dosage and Administration: To treat E. coli and Pasteurella infections, feed 10 mg/lb of body weight per day of the feed additive. The feed additive should be mixed at 10-20 grams/ton of feed when used for growth promotion and improved feed efficiency. Refer to product labels for proper dosing and mixture of the powder form. To prevent abortions, some veterinarians recommend giving 250-500 mg/head/day orally in an extra label manner. The concentrations of oxytetracycline vary greatly between each product; therefore, refer to the package label to determine the exact amount contained in the powder or feed additive. If a powder is mixed in the drinking water, prepare a fresh solution daily.
Duration of Treatment: A minimum of 2-3 days of treatment may be necessary for most problems. Treatment duration depends on the products being used and the problems being treated; because of this, refer to product labels for exact recommendations.
Packaging: This product comes in 4.78 oz. and 9.55 oz. packets and as various sized bags of feed additive.
Precautions and Side Effects: Caution should be used to not overdose, and precautions should be taken to ensure that all animals are consuming the right amount of treated water or feed each day.
Milk Withholding: 60 hours when using the soluble powder at label doses in sheep. The feed additive is not approved for use in lactating animals.
Meat Withholding: 5 days in sheep at label dose.
