Cosequin®

Indications for Use: This product can be used in animals that have joint pain and inflammation. Horses that are being worked, trained, or in competition will naturally have some degree of joint inflammation and cartilage damage that can be reduced with the use of Cosequin.

Dosage and Administration: An averaged sized horse should receive 3 level scoops in the AM and PM. Larger horses (over 1,200 lbs.) should receive 4 level scoops in the AM and PM. Some of the very large horses (draft breeds, etc.) may require 4 or 5 scoops in the AM and PM. These doses should be administered for the first 4 to 6 weeks. Most horses will respond within 2-6 weeks of using this initial treatment.

After the initial 4-6 weeks of treatment have been given and a positive response is seen, the product can be given as a dietary supplement on a daily basis. To make this transition, reduce the total daily amount by one level scoop each week until the following doses are being given. The average sized horse should receive 1 level scoop in the AM and PM. Horses over 1,200 lbs. should receive 2 level scoops in the AM and PM. This amount can be increased or decreased at any time to maintain the desired comfort level. Sometimes it is helpful to increase the amounts given 2-3 days prior to heavy workouts or competition. Continually watch the animal’s movement and attitude to ensure that it is receiving the proper amounts.

The product can be applied as a top-dressing to any grain or sweet feed that is given. If the horse does not receive any sweet feed, Cosequin can be mixed with water or molasses and dosed orally with a syringe.
